“What you’re gonna just leave her here?” Kili said as he shot to his feet. Y/n jumped at the sudden outburst.

Thorin raised an eyebrow at his nephew, “Yes, what else would you suggest?” He spoke sardonically but to his dismay Kili took the question seriously.

“She could come with us.”

Thorin snickered. He couldn’t believe his ears. He had an untrained hobbit to deal with and now Kili was suggesting to add a human to the mix? Unbelievable! “We don’t have the supplies, nor the time. She would only slow us down.”

“I’ll make sure she keeps up and she can have some of my rations! We can’t leave her-”

“What is your allegiance to this girl, nephew? You do not know this human.”

“We leave enough blood in our wake, Uncle. Do you really want this girl’s life on your conscience as well?”

Thorin paused. He gazed at Kili as he considered his words.

“She can have some of my rations too,” Fili said, “So Kili doesn’t starve himself to death trying to impress the lass.”

Chuckles rippled throughout the company and Kili felt his face flush.

“Aye, could she come with us,” Balin said. Thorin looked at him. Out of all his men, he respected Balin’s judgment the most. “We can’t leave the lass in the middle of Mirkwood.”

Thorin grumbled. “Fine,” He said. A smile broke out on Kili’s face and there were several pleased shouts throughout the company. “BUT,” Thorin roared to regain the attention of his men. “She is your responsibility,” He pointed to Kili, “Her journey ends at Laketown. She can stay with her kin.”

“Agreed,” Kili said happily. It was rare to win an argument with his uncle and he was very pleased with himself.

“Well, pack up then. That goes for all of you,” Thorin instructed.

Kili quickly grabbed his pack and walked back over to Y/n. Oin had finished bandaging both of her feet and had rushed away to roll up his bedroll. Kili squatted down in front of her. “I know you won’t understand but you’re coming with us. We’re gonna get you out of here.” His voice was low and secretive. He didn’t want anyone to hear expect for her.

Y/n pondered his words. What was he saying? More importantly, where the fuck was she?

Kili spoke again as he reached into his pack and took out a bronze canteen. He splashed water onto a leftover bandage and handed the cloth to Y/n. She gave him a questioning look. He used a finger to gesture to his cheek. Y/n frowned and wiped her own cheek with the rag. Blue spider blood smeared off of her face and onto the tan fabric. She moaned as she looked at it. That had been on her the whole time? She felt nauseous. Y/n turned her head away as tears of disgust welled up in her eyes.

Kili placed a hand on hers. He took the cloth and quickly wiped away the remaining blood. “There,” He said, “All gone.” He stood up and offered a hand to the girl.

She took it and hoisted herself gingerly onto her feet. Y/n clenched her jaw, the adrenaline that had numbed the pain before had gone. “Fuck,” She whispered.

Kili looked down at her feet. “Ah,” He thought for a moment. “Okay then,” The prince turned around and squatted down, “Hop on.”

“What?” She said. She didn’t understand what he wanted her to do. “I don’t…” Y/n shook her head. Kili turned around gestured for her to wait.

“Oi Fee, come over here.”

“What?”

“Jump on my back.”

“What?”

“Just hop on my back, like I’m giving you a piggyback ride.”

“Why?”

“Y/n doesn’t understand.”

“Aw are you going to carry her, brother? Mother was right, you are a real gentlemen.”

“Shut up! Just do it.”

“Someone’s a wee bit defensive,” Fili teased. He nimbly jumped onto his brother’s back. Blonde and brown hair flew everywhere.

Kili turned sideways so Y/n could see clearly. Both brothers grinned at Y/n as if they were posing for a picture. Y/n forced a laugh out of her throat. She nodded.

“Ok great!” Kili beamed at the girl, pleased with himself for the successful communication. “You can get off now Fee.”

“Hmmm…it’s kinda comfy up here, I think I might stay.”

“Get off!” Kili grunted. He wiggled around as he tried to shake his brother from his back.

Y/n smiled as she watched Kili try to buck the blonde man off like a bull.

“Alright alright,” Fili laughed as he finally dismounted, “Go get her you loon.”

Kili smirked and walked back to Y/n. He turned again and squatted down. Y/n took an agonizing step forward and placed both her hands on Kili’s shoulders. She had some reservations about jumping on someone that was at least a head shorter than her. But standing was so painful she had little choice.

Y/n jumped onto Kili’s back as cautiously as possible. He was much stronger than she imagined. He felt like a rock beneath her torso and she could tell by his shoulders that he was extremely muscular. He boosted her a little higher onto his back. Kili held on to her legs and Y/n’s arms rested loosely around his neck. He squatted down again and picked up his pack. He carried the lighter weight in his arms like one would a baby.

“Lets move out,” Thorin bellowed as he took his usual place at the front of the party. He led with certainty and without fear.

Y/n bounced up and down slightly as Kili walked beside his brother. Not knowing where she was being taken, made Y/n nervous but she was thankful she was traveling in a group. They were strong and armed and she was sure they would have no problem handling any threat that may arise. Y/n was especially grateful for Kili. If it weren’t for him, the strange group of inhuman men most likely would not have taken her with them. She wished she could thank him.

A small man with a funny hat and two braided pigtails walked up beside Kili and kept stride with him. He looked at her and said something. His body language was friendly. Y/n’s mouth stretched into a polite smile. The man with the funny hat pointed at himself and said, “Bofur.”

“Y/n,” She replied. He said something in return then turned his attention to Kili.

“I can carry that for you, Kili,” Bofur offered.

“No I got her,” The younger prince said, more defensively than he’d intended to. He boosted Y/n a little higher onto his back.

Bofur laughed, “I meant yer pack but I’ll carry her too if ya like.”

“Oh my pack! Yeah that would be terrific. Thank you,” Kili said quickly glossing over his mistake. Bofur took Kili’s pack and slung it over his shoulder to hang with his own.

“It’s a good thing what you’re doing. It wouldn’t have been right to leave her,” Bofur said as a parting statement. “Good to meet you Y/n,” He stretched out his hand.

Y/n smiled and took it. She was expecting a handshake but instead Bofur raise her hand to his lips and kissed it.

“Oh! Okay…” She mumbled and Bofur walked away. A laugh escaped Y/n’s lips, “What the fuck?”

Kili looked up at her. He was a bit peeved she seemed so happy about the social pleasantry. He jostled her playfully, “Having fun up there?”
Y/n giggled and tightened her grip on Kili. She sighed and rested her head on top of his.

“Thank you.”
